About Me

I am married to an amazing woman: Jenn (Gunderson) and have four incredible children: Bryce (13), Abbi (10), Cambria (7), and Zoë (3).

I've pastored a wonderful little Assembly of God congregation in northwest Minnesota since 2003 and hold a M.Div. Honours (specializing in Hebrew Bible and Theology) from Providence Theological Seminary (Otterburne, MB) where I currently also am a Sessional Instructor. Among other things I substitute teach at the local public school (K-12) and volunteer as an EMT-Basic with the local Ambulance.

I love reading theology and biblical studies: particularly the works of Karl Barth, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, T. F. Torrance, Brevard Childs and (a favorite Church Father) Tertullian, though I've also found myself enjoying (even when disagreeing with and writing about) N. T. Wright and John Walton. I particularly enjoy listening to the preaching and lectures of John Piper, Don Carson and N. T. Wright and consider myself to be theologically Reformed and Pentecostal.  In relation to this I co-author a blog with several friends called I Heart Barth where we are primarily discussing Karl Barth's Church Dogmatics, but also the works of Bonhoeffer, Wright and any other theologian that tickles our fancy.  I also am a regular contributor to the The Bible Network Blogs (Home of the NET Bible) and to Blue Chip Pastor (a blog by pastors, for pastors).

I love the study of languages and linguistics and hold competency in Hebrew, Greek, Aramaic and  Ugaritic.  I have dabbled in Syriac, Farsi, Arabic, Latin and German (all of which I hope to some day gain competency in).  In a related manner, I consider myself an enthusiast of comparative religious and cultural/anthropological/sociological studies (ancient and modern).

The books which have had the most profound impact on me would be Bonhoeffer's "Discipleship", "Life Together", "Ethics", and "Christ the Center"; Barth's "Introduction to Evangelical Theology" and "Dogmatics in Outline", J. Hudson Taylor's "Spiritual Secret", T. F. Torrance "The Christian Doctrine of God", Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings Trilogy", "The Hobbit", and "Silmarillion".

I am a member of The Canadian Society of Biblical Studies, Society for Pentecostal Studies, Society of Biblical Literature, and International Bonhoeffer Society and a global moderator at Forum.Bible.org.
